A little information for some of you that may not be too familiar with the Crepe de Chine fabric. Crepe de Chine literally translates into “crepe of China”. It really does have a somewhat crepe-y or wrinkly surface, but still has a beuatiful luster to it. It is light-weight and drapes wonderfully. Crepe de Chine is the most light-weight of all the other “crepe” fabrics. It is made with tightly twisted weft yarns running in reverse directions from left to right. These twisted yarns produce the crepe-y texture of the material and is also the cause for its flexible drape. This particular silk quality is popular for almost anything, whether it’s for evening wear, a blouse, or even men’s shirts. Another great reason to buy crepe de chine fabric is that it is one of the easiest to sew out of all our fabrics and surprisingly doesn’t fray that much!
